Knipmode 05-2011-11: Sheath Dress

Pattern Description:
Fitted sheath dress with inverted pleats and princess seams shape

Pattern and Technical Drawing:

Pattern Sizing:
This pattern offered as 34-46. I made size 40.

Likeness to pattern photo/drawing:
It looks almost exactly like the magazine photo even though I omitted the pleated cummerband. The cummberband is too fancy for my liking.

Here's how it looks like without the belt.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Written in Dutch, which I obviously cannot read. But, I don't really need it anyway because the dress is fairly easy to construct.

Likes and Dislike:
No dislikes

I find the form-fitting sheath very flattering. I really like the way it accentuates the waistline and create a smooth silhouette. I love the front pleats, giving the dress a nice price seams shape

Fabric Used:
Wool Crepe

Pattern alterations / Design changes:
Besides my usual adjustment of shortening the hem, I altered the length and placement of the back darts. The darts extended beyond waistline making it too tight around hips, and almost impossible to zip up.  So, what I do was unpicked the darts, sewed the zipper first, then only took the extra eases into darts. As seen here, I ended with shorter darts, just above the waistline. You might want to do this if you are petite because Knipmode pattern are drafted for taller figure.

Would sew it again? Would recommend it to others?
I will probably sew this again in different fabric, maybe in heavier fabric with a bit of stretch
I definitely would recommend this pattern.

Conclusion:
Sheath dress are great wardrobe staple piece. They are always flattering and don't seem to go out of style. So, I'd say  this is a must-try pattern- it's easy, versatile, and stylish.

Men's Shirt Refashion

Before: L size men's shirt
After: Ruffled shirt

How-to:
1. Cut the collar and sleeves off. Remove the pockets.
2. Put the shirt on and mark vertical front darts. Sew the darts in place

3. Mark  where the new side side seams would be and sew
4. Use bias strip to finish the armsyces

5. Cut out a round neckline. Mine is 2.5" from the original.
5. Hem the bottom. I raised 6" from the oginal hem.

5. Cut the sleeves to make ruffle piece. Two strips from each sleeve- this is to be layered, so one of  the strip should made shorter. Use rolled hem foot to finish the raw edges.

6. Arrange the strips in pleats and sew. Done ! :)

I really love how it turned out, and I hope you find this inspiring.
